Weathered granite gravel is an environmentally friendly product ideal for landscaping and hardscaping
Weathered granite gravel has a relatively lower carbon footprint compared to crushed hard rock gravel products, due to the less mechanical effort to extract and crush the material
It does not contain chemicals and provides a naturally attractive appearance, permeable and firm sound surface for traffic and pedestrian areas
The decomposed granite contains small amounts of the minerals potassium and iron, which can slowly release and improve soil fertility over time.
Rehabilitation
The approved working areas are situated in the Hassall Creek catchment area which is in the Konong Wootong Creek, Bryan Creek and Wannon River catchments
Environment protection and rehabilitation work completed across the life of the quarry operation to date include —
> Fencing and tree planting along Hassall Creek riparian area
> Creek bank stabilisation and erosion control using granite rocks
> Surface drainage works to mitigate sediment flow to Hassall Creek
> Establishment of tree plantation for visual screening of quarry working areas
The staged quarry working plan includes rehabilitation
The quarry operates in harmony with a livestock grazing enterprise and regenerative agriculture practices
Species of indigenous trees and shrubs planted within the Extractive Industry License area for rehabilitation and environment works
